Advantages of the Secondary English Concentration
- Preparation for a professional certification program in English Education grades 7–12
- Priority consideration for TEEMS, Masters of Education Alternative Preparation Program, GSU (http://msit.gsu.edu/programs/alt_eng.htm)
- Topics courses with a pedagogical focus designed primarily for students in the secondary English concentration
- Courses in British, American, and multicultural literature; language; and advanced composition covering all areas of English taught in the secondary schools
- Senior Seminar (English 4330), a capstone course that focuses on the professional aspects of teaching (instruction, pedagogical theory, professional publications, conferences), allowing students to observe teachers in action and to have a teaching experience of their own
- Exit Portfolio specific to the Concentration that provides an excellent resource from which to draw for graduate school applications and future employment portfolios
- Courses with faculty who have secondary English teaching experience, who collaborate with the College of Education program, and who may recommend you for graduate study or teaching positions
